Rooted in History, Serving with Heart
Kaffivagninn, the oldest restaurant in Iceland, is situated by the harbor in downtown Reykjavík. Serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.
Founded in 1935, Kaffivagninn is the oldest restaurant in Iceland. The name, which literally means “The Coffee Truck,” comes from its humble beginnings — founder Bjarni Kristjánsson used to drive a small coffee truck down to the harbor, serving the heroes of the sea with fragrant coffee and light meals. Soon after, the house that still hosts Kaffivagninn today was built.
Recently, Chef Axel Óskarsson and Katrín Ósk Aldan took over the management of Kaffivagninn, leading a thoughtful and respectful revitalization of the restaurant. Today, Kaffivagninn ranks among the five most popular restaurants in Reykjavík according to Tripadvisor, earning praise for its excellent service, lively atmosphere, and great food.
And you can always trust that the catch of the day, at the place where the fishermen themselves eat, is the very best you’ll find.
